The DPW has provided the following dates for residents to be aware of:

Leaf pick up will begin Monday October 21, 2024.  Please rake your leaves to the street.  Please be mindful of of not placing the leaves into the street which could impede parking and traffic.  

There will be curbside pick-up this year, on Monday September 9, 2024  for Village residents only. Please limit the material and volume to:

• 15 bags of refuse or the equivalent thereof. Natural materials will not be accepted. no brush, leaves, or yard waste.

• One appliance. Refrigerators and freezers must have freon removed. This can be done by any heating/cooling contractor. Any unit not appropriately tagged will not be accepted.

• Tires: Limit two passenger tires or one truck tire.

• Chemicals & toxic substances: Not acceptable

• Florescent light ballasts and car batteries: Not acceptable.

• Paint cans must be open and the contents must be dry.

• Drywall & Construction materials prohibited

If you have any questions, please call the Village Hall at 271-3051. Curbside pick-up takes place in the Village only. Please have your refuse curbside by 7:00 a.m. on September 9, 2024. American Waste will only be making one (1) pass on each village street.

DPW Support Staff-Primary Function:

Under the direction of the DPW Director, DPW staff perform a variety of tasks including water distribution and wastewater collection system routine maintenance. In addition to infrastructure, duties include parks, motor pool, and streets; the ability to operate heavy equipment, tools and other equipment as necessary; to perform various maintenance and cleaning tasks, as required while gaining knowledge in the duties related to village operations. The following duties are illustrative and not a comprehensive list of all responsibilities.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities:

1. Maintains vehicles, equipment, parks, public amenities, and general upkeep for the various village properties.
2. Assists with cleaning of storm drains, sewer lines, and other utility assets.
3. Maintains grounds, facilities, and equipment within the village park system.
4. Assists with Chlorination and hydrant flushing operations.
5. Plows & Maintains Roads
6. Perform MISS DIG Staking of Utilities utilizing engineering plans and field measurements.
7. May be assigned Meter Reading duties as described separately
8. Responds to after hour and/or weekend emergencies when serving in an on-call capacity.
9. Performs other related work as required and assigned.

Minimum Level of Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required:

1. No directly-related experience is required.
2. Mechanical aptitude and some knowledge of mechanical and electrical equipment.
3. Ability to lift and carry objects weighing at least 50 lbs is a requirement of this position.
4. A valid Michigan driver's license with a good driving record and proof of auto insurance is required.
5. Must be available for on-call/emergency service if and when requested.
6. Must possess legible handwriting and have good verbal communication skills to exchange information with the public, management, and co-workers.
7. Must be able to follow written and verbal instructions and pay attention to detail.
8. Familiarity with computers and software such as, but not limited to MS Word, MS Excel, etc. is required.
9. Must have or willing to obtain a CDL

Municipal Water Service Line Inspection and Inventory Project

Hydro excavating of residential curb shut offs at randomized sites within the village. Purpose is to identify and report the type of water service line material in use.       Requirement by EGLE.

30 sites between the months of May 2024 thru October 2024

Lead and Copper Sampling, Permit Required EGLE

Testing begins between the months of June 2024 thru September 2024

Bio Bags & Small Tree Limbs (< 4 ft): Mondays Only

If pickup falls on Holiday, DPW will be there on the next business day.

 In general, ditches are the responsibility of the owner of the property upon which the ditch is located; property owners are also responsible for any culverts that pass under private driveways or other privately-owned structures, and for any covered ditches or drains.  Best practice is to keep the area mowed and free from vegetation.
